While the front-end should excite you, you should also be comfortable coding Java in the middle tier since many projects at Merced require a lot of both.

Responsibilities
This is a straight-up software engineering position. As such, you will:
• Participate in functional design of features: As a UI specialist, you will be working very closely with the Interaction Designer and get the opportunity to specifically shape how our visions are manifest when it comes time to build something.
• Technically design features and write code: Mostly JavaScript, HTML, and Java, but Scheme will likely come into play if you need to venture into any interesting subsystem.
• Write documents: Mostly Functional and Design documents, but others as necessary.
• Stay Agile: We are, so you need to be too.
• Fix bugs: Goes without saying, but, well, we just said it.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
• Three to fifteen years of software development experience
• Two years of software development focused on front-end/UI development
• High proficiency in JavaScript, Java, JSP, Tag Libs, HTML, and CSS
• Desire to educate the rest of the engineering org on great front-end design and coding practices.
• Excellent work management skills, with demonstrated success in a multi-tasking work environment
• Proven track record for delivering quality software products on schedule
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent
In addition, the following are desired:
• Familiarity with any UI framework/libraries such as YUI, jQuery, ExtJS, Dojo, MochiKit, GWT etc.
• Familiarity with Lisp/Scheme
• Familiarity with XML, JSON
• Familiarity with Apache and Tomcat concepts
• Familiarity with RIA technologies
